Thomas Joyce is a realistic artist who was born in Chicago From an early age, he was fascinated by the work of the Old Masters especially Titian,Rembrandt,Hals and Velazquez He was fortunate to observe their work directly during several trips to Europe.He strives to emulate their expressiveness and psychological insight in his paintings. He is a graduate of Loyola University in Chicago. He studied privately with renowned artist and inspiring teacher,Mohamed Drisi for many years. He previously attended the American Academy of Art in Chicago where hc learned the alla prima method from encouraging teacher Ted Smuskiewicz. He also attended the school of Representational Art where he learned the French Academic method. His work is featured in the book " The Best of Portrait Painting", North Light Books. He is a member of the American Artists Professional League and has exhibited with them at the Salmagungi Club n NYC. He is also a member of the Oil Painters of America and has exhibited with them nationally. He was commiissioned to paint portraits of many notables including the musician Derek Warfield of the Wolftones, Pulitizer Prize winning author Frank McCourt, Chicago Police Superintendent Matt Rodriguez and U.S. Marshall James Whigham.
